Allsup formed his own western swing band, Tommy Allsup’s Range Riders, by the age of 18. He played alongside legendary artists and was notable for almost boarding the plane that crashed with Buddy Holly. After this near-fatal incident, he continued to thrive in the music industry, eventually opening a nightclub in Dallas.

Tommy Allsup passed away on January 11, 2017, at the age of 85 in Springfield, Missouri. His musical contributions and collaborations left a significant impact on the genre, and he is remembered for his talent and connections in the industry.
