Valerie von Martens was born Valerie Adele Rudolfine Maria Pajér Edle von Mayersperg, the daughter of Austrian admiral Rudolf Pajér Edler von Mayersperg. She married fellow actor Curt Goetz on December 20, 1923, in Berlin, and they often worked together in theater and film, with Goetz writing many of the pieces they performed. She also had a past relationship with the cabaret artist Karl Farkas.
