Véra Clouzot, born Véra Gibson-Amado, was a Brazilian-French actress who is best known for her roles in “The Wages of Fear,” “Diabolique,” and “Les Espions.” She was born on December 30, 1913, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and passed away on December 15, 1960, in Paris, France.

Personal and Family Life

Véra Clouzot was the daughter of political figure Gilberto Amado and Alice do Rego Barros. She was married twice, first to actor Léo Lapara from 1941 to 1947, and later to filmmaker Henri-Georges Clouzot from 1950 until her death. Véra was also the second cousin of the famous Brazilian writer Jorge Amado.

Career

Her acting career took off after she met Henri-Georges Clouzot on the set of the film “Jenny Lamour.” The two fell in love, leading to her divorce from Lapara. Véra starred in several notable films, most of which were directed by her husband. She was recognized for performing her own stunts in “The Wages of Fear,” showcasing her dedication to her craft.

Death and Legacy

Véra Clouzot died unexpectedly from a heart attack just 15 days before her 47th birthday. Her character in “Diabolique” also had heart issues, which some fans find eerily coincidental. Despite her brief career, two of her films are ranked among the top 250 films as of 2016, reflecting her lasting impact on cinema.
