He was the son of actor and director Wallace Reid and actress Dorothy Davenport, which placed him in a prominent Hollywood family. He had two marriages, first to Nora Pauline Teston in 1943, with whom he had four children, and then to Ruth Dugan in 1979, with whom he had two children.

Wallace Reid Jr. passed away on February 28, 1990, tragically in a plane crash at sea off Santa Monica, California.
