Wear Schoonover was born as Wear Kibler Schoonover. He played football at the University of Arkansas from 1927 to 1929. Notably, he was the first player from the University of Arkansas to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1967.

Schoonover was recognized for his contributions to sports and was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1959 as part of its inaugural class. He was also inducted into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 1989, and in 2017, he received the honor of being inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
