Personal and Family Life

Will Dohm was born as the son of a postal worker in Cologne, Germany. He served as a second lieutenant in the infantry during World War I and afterward worked in a bank while pursuing his passion for acting. Dohm was married to Heli Finkenzeller until his death, and he was the father of Gaby Dohm. He began taking acting lessons after the war and made his stage debut in 1921.

Career

Dohm’s acting career included many performances in classical plays, and he gained fame in Munich’s Kammerspiele. While his film career began in 1927, he truly became famous with the arrival of sound films. Known for playing lovable rogues and pompous characters, he was celebrated as one of Germany’s most charming character comedians. His last role was in “Die Fledermaus” (1946) before his health declined.

Death and Legacy

Will Dohm passed away on November 28, 1948, in Munich due to health issues. He had to decline a prominent role in the film “The Original Sin” a few months before he died. Despite his untimely death at the age of 51, his popularity in German cinema remains influential, and a street in Munich is named after him in recognition of his contributions to the arts.
