Born on February 17, 1945, in New York City, Zina was the daughter of Ivy Bethune, an established actress, and William Charles Bethune. Zina was married to Sean Feeley from December 27, 1970, until her passing in 2012.

Zina Bethune passed away on February 12, 2012, just days before her 67th birthday, after being struck by two cars in a hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles.
